Description
The North Western Barn, built around 1800 with possible earlier remains, is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The west wall has a wider shippon end that projects forward to the right, with a wide entrance to the left of this end, sheltered by a canopy supported on a projecting wall. On the far right, there is a shippon door with plain reveals. Quoins, reaching about 2 meters high, are visible a short distance from the left-hand gable wall, indicating that the barn may have been rebuilt from an earlier structure on the site. The east wall also has a shippon that projects forward on the left, featuring a door with a chamfered surround. Further to the right, there is a threshing door with long-and-short jambs, and above it, a re-set plaque inscribed with '1689 TE'. Under the eaves to the right, there is a pitching hole. Inside, two of the trusses are made of oak, featuring tie beams, high collars, and queen struts, while the other trusses are constructed of softwood with re-used principals.
