Description
The former farmhouse on the south-east side of the farmyard at Barkin Gate dates back to 1709 and is now used as a farm store. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of three bays. The windows have mullions and are rebated and chamfered, except for the left-hand window on the first floor, which is only chamfered. There is a drip course present. The left-hand ground-floor window has three lights, with an additional light to the left beyond a king mullion. The right-hand window, which was originally three lights, now has only one mullion remaining. The first-floor windows consist of two, two, and three lights. The door features a moulded surround with a battlemented lintel that is inscribed with '1709 RWI'. The building has end chimneys, and there is a stair wing at the rear that likely dates from the mid-18th century. Inside, there are re-used cruck timbers, a probable firehood bressumer, and a 19th-century stair.
