Description
Outhwaite Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of pebbledashed rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building has a T-plan layout, originally designed with an end baffle-entry. It stands two storeys high and has four bays, with a drip course. The windows are rebated and chamfered, previously designed with two lights, but now the mullions have been removed. The current doorway, located in the third bay, is not original and is sheltered by a single-storey gabled porch that was not present in a photograph from 1890. The gables are topped with copings and kneelers, and there are chimneys. The rear wing appears to be original and contains windows with rebated and chamfered surrounds, along with a gable featuring coping and kneelers. To the south of this wing is the original entrance to the main living room, positioned close to the gable wall. This entrance has a moulded surround with a shaped lintel and hood, but it is now blocked and has been converted into a window. Inside the house, the main joists are exposed and chamfered. Near the south gable wall, there is a firehood bressumer with a mortise for the heck post, which was part of the original lobby-entry.
