Description
Nos. 51 and 53 on Avenue Road are a pair of cottages built in 1821. They are constructed from slobbered sandstone rubble and have a roof made of modern imitation stone slates. The cottages are two storeys high and consist of two bays. The quoins are prominent and feature diagonal tooling. The windows are sashed and set in plain stone surrounds, also with diagonal tooling. Notably, the windows in the right-hand bay are misaligned, with the ground floor window displaying '1821' incised on its lintel. The door to No. 51 has a plain stone surround, and there is a square stone gutter at the eaves. Both cottages have end stacks, and the entrance to No. 53 is located in the left-hand gable.
