Description

The Guild Hall, now a Catholic social club, dates from around 1800. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features slate roofs. The building has a cruciform plan and consists of two storeys, with a central block that is taller and square in shape, topped by a pyramidal roof. The quoins are prominent and exhibit furrowed tooling. Each wing has two bays on the return walls, with windows that have plain reveals, tooled sills, and lintels. The first-floor windows on the west wall of the south-west wing are sashed and include glazing bars.

There are doors with plain stone surrounds located in the east wall of the north-east wing, in the gable of the south-east wing, and in the south wall of the north-west wing, although the latter has been blocked and replaced by a modern door at the angle with the adjoining wing. An external stone stair with a solid parapet is positioned against the gable of the south-west wing, leading to a first-floor door that has a plain stone surround. Due to the higher ground level, there is direct entry onto the first floor at the north-west gable, which serves as the main entrance. This entry is through a porch that features later 19th-century carved bargeboards and 20th-century extensions.
