Description
Nos. 156 and 158 on Todmorden Road are a pair of cottages dating from the late 18th century. They are constructed from watershot coursed sandstone and feature a stone slate roof that extends further down at the back than at the front, with no chimney present. The cottages are two storeys high, each consisting of one bay. The plain doorways are coupled in the centre, and there are stepped triple-light windows on both floors, with the ground floor window of No. 156 having been lengthened downwards. Additionally, there is a single-light window in the centre of the first floor. The rear wall is built back to earth, except for the first floor, which has vertical rectangular windows at each end and two small windows near the centre, one of which is blocked. These cottages were likely used for domestic weaving.
