Description
Nos. 142 and 144 on Todmorden Road are a pair of cottages from the late 18th century that have been altered. They are built from watershot coursed sandstone and feature a stone slate roof with chimneys located at the left junctions of the ridge. The cottages are two storeys high, with each cottage comprising one bay. There are some signs of a vertical joint between the two cottages at the first-floor level. The doorways are situated on the right-hand side, with the entrance to No. 142 now covered by a small gabled porch. Each cottage has one window on each floor; the ground floor window of No. 144 has been altered, while No. 142 retains its original stepped triple-light window. At the first floor, No. 142 has a stepped triple-light window, and No. 144 features two stepped five-light windows. These cottages were likely used for domestic weaving.
