Description
164 and 166 Todmorden Road is a pair of cottages, which may have originally been one cottage, dating from the late 18th century. The building is constructed of coursed thin sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof with a brick chimney on the ridge and another at the left gable. It has a single pile design with two bays and stands two storeys tall. The right end has a plain doorway, while there is a blocked former doorway to the right side of the first bay. The ground floor has two coupled sashed windows, likely added later, and above them are stepped 5-light windows, with the middle lights being sashed. The rear wall is rendered and includes a boarded door to the second bay, one square window at ground floor, and two windows at the first floor, with the first bay window containing 16 small panes. The first bay also has a single-storey rear extension with a monopitched roof and a blocked doorway. There is a vertical joint between No. 166 and No. 168 to the right. The building was probably used for domestic weaving and is listed for its group value only.
