Description
Dog Pits Farmhouse and the attached barn form a single structure, likely built in the late 18th century and recently renovated into a house. The facade is made of coursed squared sandstone, while the rest of the building is constructed from random rubble, topped with a stone slate roof that features three chimneys along the ridge. The farmhouse has three bays and two storeys, with a single-storey gabled porch located at the junction of the second and third bays, aligned with the third chimney. There are plain doorways in the first and third bays, with the doorway in the third bay altered to serve as a window. The first and second bays each have a Venetian-style flush-mullioned window with three lights on both floors, where the centre light is round-headed. A similar window is found at the first floor of the third bay, which has a long sill band, and another window is located at the ground floor of the right return wall. Other openings in the side and rear walls are mostly small rectangular windows, which are original but of lesser interest. The barn, which has two bays and is connected to the left of the farmhouse, features a round-arched wagon entrance in the second bay, along with a simple doorway and window in the first bay. The left return wall of the house, visible from inside the barn, shows the gable line of an earlier and smaller building. Additionally, there is a two-storey lean-to stable on the left side of the barn.
