Description

Dunald Mill Cottage is a house that was formerly a house and barn, dated 1822 as indicated by the inscription 'J L 1822' on the keystone of the former barn doorway. The building is constructed from squared, coursed, watershot sandstone, featuring furrowed quoins and a plinth made of large furrowed ashlar blocks. It has a stone slate roof and a single-unit double-pile plan, with the barn of the same construction under a continuous roof to the right. The cottage is two storeys high, with the original house comprising two bays that have sashed windows with glazing bars set in plain stone surrounds. The front door, which also has a plain stone surround, is located to the right of the window. A modern window has been inserted into the first-floor window to the right of the door, and there is a wide barn door with a segmental head that is now partly blocked and contains a modern window. The right-hand gable features two former shippon doors, with the rear one blocked to create a window. A chimney is located on the left-hand gable and between the house and the former barn, along with a modern chimney that has been inserted into the barn.
