Description

Yates House is a house that includes flanking barns, now converted into one residence. The house dates from the early to mid-18th century, while the barns were built in 1840 and 1843. The property underwent restoration and conversion around 1985. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone and features a stone slate roof.

The house is two storeys high and has three bays, with stressed quoins. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed four-panel door set within an architrave that has a pulvinated frieze and a corniced pediment. On either side of the door, there are four-light windows on both the ground and first floors, each with flat-faced mullions in stone surrounds. The first floor also has a semicircular headed window in the center, which includes a keystone and imposts. There are projecting bands at the sill and lintel levels, with a kneeler and gable coping on the right side, and end corniced stacks.

To the left of the house is a barn that has been incorporated into the residence. This barn has one bay and features a small cart entrance with a datestone above that reads '1843', along with a window added around 1985. There is also a two-storey stable with a granary above, which is now part of the house and has external stone steps leading to a first-floor door with tie stones. On the right side of the house, the former barn has a cart entry with a flat arch made of splayed voussoirs and a datestone above that reads '1840', with fenestration dating from around 1985.
