Description
Pear Tree Cottage is a house with an attached barn that has been incorporated into the house. It was built in 1752, with 19th-century additions and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed from coursed squared gritstone, featuring gritstone dressings and quoins. It has a steeply pitched slate roof with stone gable end stacks and stone coped gables that include moulded kneelers, as well as a coved eaves band.
The cottage is two storeys high and has two bays, with an extension to the east. The central entrance features a flush doorcase with a massive lintel and dripmould, leading to a 20th-century plank door. On either side of the entrance are two-light flush mullion windows with 20th-century single pane casements, and there are two similar windows above on the upper floor. Above the door, there is a central datestone with an oval panel inscribed 'HAJ 1752'.
The east gable wall has a 20th-century addition with a 20th-century door that connects the house to the former gritstone rubble barn, which is now part of the house. This barn features a pointed doorcase and door on the west side, along with a 4-light 20th-century flush mullion window on the south gable wall. Inside the original house, there is a 18th-century bracketed stone fireplace in the west room.
