Description

This is a range of barn and stables with a flat above, located at Stanton Woodhouse Farm. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone later alterations. The building is constructed from coursed, squared gritstone, with random dressed gritstone rubble used in the later alterations, and features gritstone dressings and quoins. The roofs are primarily stone slate, except for the slate roof of the later addition, which is hipped at the east end. The building has stone coped gables, moulded kneelers, and two ridge stone stacks on the eastern range.

The structure is two storeys high and has an L-plan layout, consisting of a four-bay east range with gabled bays on either side and a six-bay south range. The east elevation features a flush quoined doorcase with a recessed door to the north. To the south, there is a three-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a dripmould. Further south, there are a pair of segmental-headed archways with projecting keystones and plank doors. There is also a lower doorcase to the south with a stable door and a thin window directly above it. Above this, four regularly placed three-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows with dripmoulds and leaded lights are present.

The southern range has a central stable door with windows on either side to the east, along with a three-light recessed and chamfered window above. To the west, there is a 19th-century stable that was raised to two storeys in the 20th century. This section features a central flush quoined stable door with pairs of windows on either side and an inserted door at the far west. Above, there are three hayloft openings. Beyond this to the west is the barn, which has 20th-century double doors to the east and a window and doorcase to the west, with a stable door located above the central window.
