Description

This milestone, dating from the mid-19th century, is made of sandstone and has a triangular shape with a sloping top. The top is inscribed with the word 'WHITTINGTON'. The left side of the milestone has the inscription 'KIRKLAND 2½ MILES', while the right side reads 'CARNFORTH 8½ MILES. LANCASTER 13 MILES'.
