Description
This milepost, dated 1837, is located 350 metres southeast of the junction of Wigan Lane and Rawlinson Lane in Chorley. It is made of cast iron and features an elaborate design. The structure consists of a rectangular panel with a segmental head that has a crest and ball finials. The panel is supported by a wide stem, which stands on a low fluted pillar. The segmental head is inscribed with 'DUXBURY', while the main panel reads '6 MILES TO WIGAN - 21/4 MILES TO CHORLEY 1837'. Additionally, there is an inscription on the stem that states 'HAIGH FOUNDRY'.
