Milepost. Dated 1837. Cast iron milepost of elaborate design, comprising a rectangular panel with segmental head carrying a crest with ball finials. The panel rises from a wide stem, standing upon a low fluted pillar. The segmental head bears the inscription 'DUXBURY' and below, the main inscription to the panel reads '6 MILES TO WIGAN - 21/4 MILES TO CHORLEY 1837' An inscription on the stem reads 'HAIGH FOUNDRY'.
