Description
The barn, likely dating from the early 17th century or earlier, is situated within Duxbury Park. It is a cruck-framed building with brick gable walls. A small, three-light brick mullioned window provides ventilation in the right gable wall. The side walls are constructed of random sandstone rubble with large quoins, and the roof is covered with stone slates, hipped at the left end. The barn's rectangular plan extends over seven bays, with the seventh bay lofted. There is a large double-width wagon door in the fourth bay. Four other doorways are present, two of which are blocked. The upper level has three large openings and four square windows. Inside, six full cruck trusses feature substantial blades with notched dorsals, along with tie beams, collars, collar-yokes, and blade tops carefully shaped to accommodate the ridge. Two trenched and windbraced purlins are on each side. Remaining wall posts, parts of others, and wallplates with mortise holes within the underside suggest the original presence of timber walling.
