Description

This milepost, dating from around 1821, is made of cast iron and is located on the north side of Stockport Road in Thelwall, part of the former turnpike route from Warrington to Altrincham. The design features a plate with a convex top, raised shoulders, and rounded lower corners. It has a central column displaying placenames with mileage indicated on each side: 17 miles to Stockport, 8 miles to Altrincham, 3 miles to Warrington, and 16 miles to Manchester. The cast iron stem shows some damage.
