Description
Home Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1692 and altered in 1745, as indicated by datestones. It is constructed of brown brick in Flemish bond on a sandstone plinth, with a roof replaced in Hardrow cement slates. The building is rectangular, consisting of two storeys plus an attic, and features five windows. There is a late 20th-century door set in a slightly projecting gabled porch made of painted sandstone, which has a sandstone lintel with a double-cyma cornice. The windows are two-light wood casements with small panes, set in coved projecting subframes of stone that are also painted. An oval datestone from 1745 is present, and there are two windows in each end gable. A plaque, now located in a lean-to extension at the rear, marks the year 1692.
Inside, the farmhouse features six-panel doors that are fielded on one side, with short central panels and tall panels above and below. The overmantel in the parlour likely includes elements from the 17th century. A mid-18th century dogleg staircase leads to the first floor and has two turned balusters per step. The staircase from the first floor to the attic features shaped splat balusters, which are probably from the late 17th century.
