Description
No 90 on Warrington Road is a cottage dating from the mid 17th century. It features an oak small-framed structure with some wattle-and-daub panels, but is mostly brick-nogged. The gable walls and part of the front have been rebuilt in brick, all of which is painted black and white. The roof is thatched with Norfolk reed. The cottage has one storey and three rooms, along with a small 20th-century brick extension at the rear. Oak posts are set on heavy sandstone pads, and there is one intermediate rail. The windows and door are replaced wooden features, likely in their original openings. A central thatched dormer and one ridge chimney are present. Inside, there is a lobby entrance with a baffle leading to the inglenook. The stair has been removed from behind the inglenook, and access to the loft is now by ladder. The inglenook has a bressumer, and there is one roughly-finished oak beam in the central room, along with a chamfered oak beam in the left room.
