Description

The barn at Nightingale's Farm, dated 1705, is currently in a derelict state. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a stone slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan with five bays, flanked by modern extensions made of concrete blocks. The front (east) side includes a former wagon doorway at the center, flanked by short cheeks with relief lettering: "N" on the left and "1" on the right, with part of the left letter obscured. There are breathers on two levels, along with modern windows inserted at the ground floor and a square window at the first floor of the fifth bay.

On the right (north) gable wall, there are three ground floor doorways with large rectangular lintels; the central doorway features relief lettering "N" and has a square pitching door above it. To the right of this doorway, there is a small chamfered round-headed opening on the first floor, dated "1705". The left gable wall has two square stone mullioned windows that are missing their mullions, and at the first floor, there are three square openings, with the middle one set higher than the others.

The rear (west) wall has a large lintel in the first bay that once led to a double doorway, which is partially filled with ashlar masonry. The center of this wall features an altered wagon doorway, and in the fifth bay at the first floor level, there is a two-light stone mullioned window that is also lacking its mullion. Inside, the barn retains original roof trusses with raking struts and collars.
