Description
This is a barn located adjacent to Birchinley Hall Farmhouse, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is constructed of squared rubble and features a graduated stone slate roof. The barn has five structural bays and includes a later or rebuilt outshut to the left of the cart entry, as well as an outshut addition that runs the full length of the rear, which has been altered in the 20th century. The cart entry, which has a timber lintel, is now blocked. There are quoins on the left outshut and a square-cut door surround at the extreme right. Two similar doors are located on the left return, with one of them blocked. A large opening has been inserted in the right gable end. The roof is a through-purlin type, supported by four tie-beam trusses that feature inclined struts and stop-chamfers with run-out stops. The barn is included for its group value with the farmhouse.
