Description
Olde Wylde House Cottage, part of Wild House Farmhouse, is a house that has been converted into three cottages. It likely dates from the mid-17th century but has undergone rebuilding in the 19th century and alterations in the 20th century. The exterior is rendered stone with a graduated stone slate roof. The building is two stories tall and probably originally featured gabled crosswings at each end, although the right crosswing has been rebuilt. The structure has quoins, and most door and window openings are from the 20th century or have been altered, except for two three-light chamfered mullion windows, one of which has a hoodmould. The rear of the building has a mix of two, four, and three-light double-chamfered mullion windows with hoodmoulds, along with three three-light windows on the upper floor. A total of five mullions have been removed from the rear windows. There is a 20th-century chimney stack, and the interior has been significantly altered. A drawing from the 19th century by H. Fishwick in his "History of Rochdale," published in 1889, provides historical context for the building.
