Description

The Shore family chest tomb, located in the graveyard of St. James Church, dates from around 1811. It is constructed of ashlar and features a plinth with a nosing. The chest has rounded ends, recessed panels, and rustications, and is flanked by turned corner balusters that support a slab. The slab has reeded edges with acanthus leaf corners and is inscribed in memory of Betty, the wife of James Shore, along with their daughter Anne, and his second and third wives, Alice and Rachel, respectively, as well as James Shore himself.
