Description
This is a barn dating from the early 18th century, located on the north side of New Mills Road, opposite The Birches. It is constructed of coursed gritstone rubble with large quoins and features gritstone dressings. The barn has a stone slate roof with low eaves and is a single storey in height.
On the west elevation, there is an advanced section to the north that includes a door with a timber lintel. To the south, there is a second doorcase with a stone lintel. The south gable wall has a central high opening surrounded by massive quoin stones, and above this, a projecting stone serves as a dripmould. Additionally, there is an inserted opening from the 19th century on the west side.
Inside, the barn is divided into two sections by a truss and a timber wall. The trusses are lapped at the top, with a collar near the ridge, and later-added queen struts. A pair of purlins rests on the truss.
