Description
House. Possibly dating from the early 17th century, with a tablet indicating "Ga Gartside May 1669" (likely relating to a relocation), and a late 19th-century addition. The house is constructed of squared rubble, partly rendered, with a rock-faced stone addition, and has a slate roof. The original central unit of the house remains, together with the two-storey porch and part of the right cross wing, while the left wing was demolished to make way for the 19th-century addition. The porch features quoins, a hood mould that rises above a moulded door surround with a Tudor-arched lintel, an inscribed tablet, a cavetto-moulded mullion window on the first floor with three arched lights and a flat hood, and a coped gable with kneelers. The main house section has a four-light double-chamfered mullion and transom window with a flat hoodmould, and a three-light double-chamfered first-floor window. A chimney stack to the right has a diagonally set shaft. The gabled cross wing has been reduced in size, but it retains a two-light double-transom stair window at the rear, along with other original windows. The interior of the house-part features chamfered floor beams and retains a moulded fire surround. The house may date from a conveyance of 1612.
