Description

Nos. 1 and 3 Whitehall Street, also known as Nos. 20 East Gate Street, are early 19th-century houses that have been converted into offices. They are constructed of brick with stone dressings and feature a slate roof. Each house has a central entrance and staircase, with rooms on either side and a yard at the rear.

No. 1 is a double pile house that is two rooms wide and has access to a basement from Yorkshire Street. No. 3 has one room to the left of the entrance and two rooms to the right, along with a small two-storey wing at the rear and rear access from East Gate Street. The buildings rise three storeys, with a total of seven bays facing Whitehall Street, three bays on Yorkshire Street, and four bays on East Gate Street.

Architectural details include a stone plinth, door surrounds with overlights, pilasters, and cornices, as well as a four-panel door for No. 3. Most windows are original sashes with stone wedge lintels and sills, except for two tripartite sashes on the ground floor of No. 3 and the Yorkshire Street elevation. The eaves feature a timber modillion cornice, and the roofs are hipped. There are two stone door surrounds on East Gate Street, brick pilasters, stone banding, and cast iron railings along the Yorkshire Street elevation.
