Description
Nos. 10, 12, 14, and 16 Baillie Street is a group of buildings that were originally William Deacon's Manchester and Salford Bank and shops, dating from 1890. Constructed of stone and brick with a slate roof, the buildings are arranged to follow the curve of the road. From left to right, there is a shop front, an entrance to the upper floor, another shop front, and a grand entrance. The two original shop fronts are symmetrically positioned around the entrance of No. 14.
The entrance to No. 10 features a small open triangular pediment with scrolls on either side, which frames the bank's coat of arms and crest, all set within an open elliptical pediment supported by consoles decorated with garlands. The doors are flanked by enriched pilasters and topped with a large semi-circular fanlight, which is accompanied by florid spandrel panels and a fluted keystone. The first floor includes two tripartite elliptical-headed windows and one circular-headed window, each with stone keystones and panelling below, along with a semi-circular tripartite window above the ground door. The building is finished with a bracketed stone and brick eaves cornice.
