Description
The Ukrainian Catholic Church of Saint Mary, originally the Anglican Church of St James, was built in 1821. It features an ashlar exterior and a slate roof. The church has a wide nave and a central west tower with entrance porches on the north and south sides, along with a small chancel and a vestry on the north side. Designed in the style of a Commissioners' Church, it has a five-bay nave with weathered gableted plain buttresses, castellations, and three-light two-tier Perpendicular-style windows. The three-stage castellated tower includes diagonal weathered buttresses topped with crocketed pinnacles, a clock in the second stage, and double openings that match the nave windows in the bell stage. Inside, the church has quadripartite vaults in both the nave and chancel, and it currently lacks the galleries it may have once featured.
