Description
Nos. 10, 12, and 14 Clough Lane, along with Nos. 1, 3, 3A, and 5 Beech Lane, form a group of buildings that were originally a wool merchant's warehouse, now converted into six houses and a flat. These structures likely date from the 1820s and are constructed from watershot hammer-dressed stone, topped with a slate and graduated stone slate roof.
Nos. 10 Clough Lane and 1, 3, and 3A Beech Lane are single-depth buildings featuring four storeys and four bays. In contrast, Nos. 12 and 14 Clough Lane and 5 Beech Lane are double-depth, with three bays and three storeys. The Beech Lane houses are accessed at first floor level from the rear and occupy the upper floors.
The first three bays have raised quoins, with doors on the left and right that have square-cut surrounds. Each floor features three flat-faced two-light stone mullion windows (the second bay has a blind window), with either 15 or 12-pane sash windows. The buildings also have shaped eaves gutter brackets and ridge chimney stacks.
Bays four to seven include five-light windows in bays four and seven, two-light windows in bay six, and blocked taking-in doors on all but the top floor in bay five. There is a blocked door in bay six and a door that has been inserted into a window in bay seven. The gable and rear of the buildings contain various two, three, and five-light flat-faced stone mullion windows, with access to the rear houses provided by stepped bridges and doors that also have square-cut surrounds.
