Description

Beechdene, also known as Nos 15 (Town House), 17 (Notley), and 19, is a terrace of three houses built in the early 19th century. The front is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, while the rest is made of Bargate rubblestone. The houses have a Welsh slate roof and are two storeys high, with three bays for each house. A cemented plinth runs along the base, and giant plain pilasters separate each house.

Each house features a central doorway: No 15 has an old six-panel door with the top two panels glazed; No 17 has a six-panel door with two central glazed panels in a panelled reveal; and No 19 has a 20th-century glazed door. All doorways are framed by architraves with pilasters, an entablature that includes the painted house name on the frieze, and a dentil cornice. The flanking doors are canted bay windows topped with cornices and flat metal roofs. The windows throughout are sash style with glazing bars, except for the eight-pane sashes on the sides of the bay windows, which have flat brick arches above them on the first floor. The eaves overhang, and the roof is hipped with five stacks located on the ridge and at the rear.

There is a pent-roofed garage outshut added to the right, which is not of special interest. At the rear, the openings feature brick quoins and segmental brick arches, with a central projecting wing that has a hipped roof.
