Description

Three cottages, dated 1717 ("RB 1717" on a datestone), are constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a graduated stone slate roof. They follow a three-bay, two-storey, single-depth plan, with a wing to the rear right (now number 16) and a small addition in the angle (now number 16A). Quoins and an eaves cornice are visible. A door in the first bay has a chamfered dressed surround. The ground floor windows are 3, 2, and 3-light, with 20th-century mullions. The first floor features two 3-light recessed cavetto-moulded mullion windows and a central 2-light window where the mullion has been removed. The building has gable chimney stacks. The rear wing retains a 4- and 5-light recessed chamfered mullion window, a door surround with a double-quirked bead, quoins, and a square-cut door surround. The small addition uses the cornice from the rear of the original house and has 3-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion windows on both floors.
