Description

Nos. 1 to 13, New Street, form a row of seven houses built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone, with a roof of graduated stone slates, some of which have been replaced with 20th-century tiles. Each house is double-depth and has three storeys and two bays, except for No.1, which has a single bay. Each house has a front door with a dressed surround, and sash windows on the upper floors with square-cut stone surrounds. The other bays feature tripartite sash windows on each floor. Most of the original sashes have been replaced with 20th-century casement windows, and a shop window has been inserted into No. 3. Shaped eaves gutter brackets and ridge chimney stacks are prominent features. At the rear of each house are recessed, flat-faced stone mullion windows, typically with 4, 5, or 6 lights and king mullions on each floor. Other rear features include a blocked taking-in door and a later lean-to extension.
