Description
The Hare and Hounds Public House is a late 18th-century public house located on the east side of High Street in Uppermill. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan with three bays and three storeys. The central door is surrounded by an ovolo-moulded frame and is flanked by two 3-light flat-faced stone mullion windows from the 19th century. On the first and second floors, there are two 5-light and one central 2-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion window on each floor. The building has shaped eaves gutter brackets and quoins, as well as gable stacks. There are blocked windows and a taking-in door on the gable. The rear of the building has similar windows but is partly obscured by a 20th-century flat-roofed brick extension.
