No. 4 Saint Mary's Gate is a house located in Uppermill, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building has a single-depth plan with three storeys and three bays. The symmetrical front elevation includes raised quoins and a central door with a dressed surround. Each of the outer bays (1 and 3) has paired sash windows with square-cut surrounds on every floor, while the middle bay (2) has single sash windows on the upper floors. There are no glazing bars present. The eaves are supported by shaped gutter brackets, and there is a gable chimney stack. At the rear, a flight of steps provides access to the top floor, which features a three-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion window. This building is included for its group value.
