Description
Nos. 8 and 6 on Saint Mary's Gate are two houses built in the late 18th century. They are constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone and feature a graduated stone slate roof. Each house has a single-depth plan with one bay and three storeys. The front of each house has a door with a square-cut surround, along with 2 and 3-light recessed flat-faced mullion windows. Both houses have gable and ridge chimney stacks. The main elevation is at the rear, where each house has a door on the left side. No. 8 includes 4, 6, and 8-light windows, while No. 6 features similar 5-light windows on each floor, which still have 19th-century casements and central sashes. To the left, there is a small two-storey entrance bay adjoining No. 6.
