Description
This building, located at 49-53 Tib Street in Manchester, is a row of three garret-workshop houses that have been converted into shops. They date from the late 18th century or early 19th century and have undergone alterations. The structure is made of brick, which is painted white above the ground floor, and features a slate roof.
The building has a double-depth plan with a rear wing on the right-hand side. It stands three storeys high and has four windows arranged as 1+1+2. The ground floor has been altered, and there are blocked segmental-headed windows on the first floor. The second floor features three multiple-light garret windows: the first window is mostly boarded but likely had 5 or 6 lights, the second has 4 lights, and the third has 7 lights, all with small panes and likely horizontal sliding sash openings, though they are slightly damaged.
On the right-hand gable wall, there is a loading door situated between the first and second floor levels, with a hoist beam above it. The rear wing continues to the back and includes another garret window on the second floor. The rear of the building has blocked windows on the first floor and smaller garret windows on the second floor, which are also boarded. The interior has not been inspected. This building is noted as a rare survival of industrial dwellings close to the city centre.
