Description
This is a row of seven garret workshop houses, now used as shops, built around 1820 to 1830 and altered over time. The buildings are made of red brick, with Nos. 29 to 35 currently painted white, and feature slate roofs. Each house has a double-depth plan and is single-fronted, standing three storeys tall with one window each. The ground floors have all been altered. The first floor has segmental-headed windows, with most having modified glazing, although Nos. 35 and 37 retain sash windows. The second floor mostly features horizontal-rectangular windows, with No. 31 having five lights with small panes, No. 33 having five lights with altered glazing, and No. 41 having three altered lights flanked by two blocked lights. Nos. 35 to 39 show remnants of wooden modillioned eaves, and there are ridge chimneys on Nos. 35 and 37. At the rear, Nos. 33, 35, and 37 have remnants of multiple-light garret windows, and No. 35 has a segmental-headed doorway on the first floor. This row is noted as an interesting example of late Georgian industrial housing.
