Description
The former Midland Bank, now an office, was built around 1914 and has been renovated. It is located on a corner site at the east side of Swan Street in Ancoats, Manchester. The building is designed in a classical style and features Portland stone, although the roof is concealed. It has an irregular plan with a semi-circular south end facing Oldham Road.
The structure has two storeys, with a rusticated ground floor and coupled Ionic pilasters on the first floor. It includes a panelled frieze, a dentilled modillion cornice, and a balustraded parapet. The entrance is highlighted by a pilaster doorcase with a cornice on consoles, topped by a voluted keyblock. The ground floor has round-headed windows with run-out voussoirs, while the first floor features square-headed windows with moulded architraves, ornamental balconies, and cornices mounted on cartouches.
