Description
Nos. 104 and 106 on High Street is a small warehouse that has been converted into shops. It was built around 1860-1870 and has undergone some alterations. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. It has a rectangular plan on a corner site and is designed in the Italian palazzo style.
The structure features four storeys and four bays, with a pilastered ground floor, sill-bands on both upper floors, a prominent moulded cornice, and a brick parapet with moulded coping. The ground floor includes two 20th-century shop windows and a recessed panelled door to the right, while a former corner doorway to the left has been bricked up. The upper floors have sashed windows without glazing bars, all featuring impost bands. The first-floor windows are round-headed, while those on the upper floors have stilted segmental heads, all adorned with keystones and hoodmoulds. There are small corner chimneys.
The left return to Copperas Street has six bays in a matching style, although the ground floor has been bricked up. This building forms a group with the former Wholesale Fish Market located on the opposite side of the street.
