Description

This milestone, dating from around 1820, is located 125 meters north of Street Lane Farmhouse on the east side of London Road in Adlington. It is made of buff sandstone and features a shaped top. A cast-iron plate affixed to the stone reads "FROM LONDON 173 MILES FROM MACCLESFIELD 6 MILES TO STOCKPORT 6 MILES". This milestone was erected on the refurbished Stockport-Macclesfield turnpike and is similar to other examples found in Prestbury and Poynton.
