Description

The milestone opposite Aldersey Fold is a turnpike milestone dating from around 1820. It is made of buff sandstone and features an ashlar finish with a triangular top. There is a recess that holds a square cast-iron plate, which displays the distances: "FROM LONDON 170 MILES. FROM MACCLESF. 3 MILES, TO STOCKPORT 9 MILES." This milestone is one of several similar markers that were erected along the improved Hazel Grove to Macclesfield turnpike. Another milestone of this type can be found on London Road in Adlington, along with two more in Poynton with Worth.
