Description

Bridge End Farmhouse is a building dating to the later 16th century, with additions and alterations made in the early 19th century. It is located on the south side of Bridge End Lane in Prestbury. The farmhouse is constructed of partly coursed squared buff sandstone rubble and partly English garden wall bond orange brick, with a Kerridge stone-slate roof. It features a stone ridge and two brick chimneys. Originally a 2-bay cruck-formed gable-entry house, it now has a long rectangular plan. The front facade is two storeys high and spans seven bays. The two bays on the left are slightly taller and contain a cambered brick head over a 4-pane sash window and a 2-light casement window above. The central portion has a front door and casement windows, while the right end incorporates a dairy and a garage. The rear of the central portion is of rubble stone.

Inside, the farmhouse retains two full cruck frames of good scantling, featuring a tie beam, queen posts, a collar, and yokes. An inglenook fireplace is present, incorporating a heck post and a slightly cambered, chamfered fire beam. There is also a matching ceiling beam and chamfered joists. A 3-board door with iron strap hinges is a further feature.
