Description

Brooks Cottages, now two dwellings, originated as a farmhouse, dated 1686, with 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed from coursed squared buff sandstone rubble, with a Kerridge stone-slate roof and stone ridge and gable brick chimneys. It is a two-storey, four-bay structure. A gabled porch has been added to the left end. Lower-story features include two long rubble hood moulds. To the left, above, is a restored five-light stone mullioned window, and to the right, above, a 20th-century door and casement. Above these are two three-light windows (one with restored mullions), each with a rubble hood mould set within a barge-boarded half dormer. A central plaque reads “Rodger Brooks and Ellen his wife Erected his house in the 24 years of his life Ano Dom 1686.”
