Description

This milestone, located 110 meters north of the junction with Anglesea Drive, dates from around 1824. It is made of buff sandstone and features a cast-iron plaque. The stone is a semi-circular headed rectangular shape, standing upright, and the plaque indicates distances to London (176 miles), Macclesfield (8 miles), and Stockport (4 miles). A similar milestone can be found on London Road, and there are six other surviving examples further south along the former Hazel Grove-Macclesfield turnpike.
