Description
Lostock Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with an early 19th-century brick exterior and later 19th-century alterations. It is timber-framed but covered in rendered red-brick. The roof is steeply pitched and made of Kerridge stone-slate, featuring four brick chimneys. The original structure consists of three bays with a lateral stack, and two short ranges added at an angle to the south. The building has two storeys, and most openings now have later 19th-century casements and door frames, except for two 16-pane sash windows on the additions.
Inside, the timber frame is mostly intact and visible in most rooms. The ceiling beams are mostly chamfered. There is a large brick fireplace in the kitchen with a segmental arch and small stone benches inside. The original roof features two trusses with a tie-beam, two short diagonal struts, and a collar above, along with overlapping through purlins and a ridge.
Historically, this farmhouse was a subordinate manor of the Warren family from Poynton Hall.
