Description
Street Lane Farmhouse is a former tollhouse that has been converted into a farmhouse. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone some alterations and extensions in the 20th century. The building is constructed of washed and rendered brick and features a hipped Welsh slate roof with a central chimney that has four joined diamond-shaped stacks.
The farmhouse is two stories high with a symmetrical three-bay front. The end bays contain two-light wooden casement windows. The central bay projects slightly forward and is topped by a gable. It features a rectangular stone doorcase that holds a 20th-century glazed door, which is sheltered by a gabled hood that is supported by wooden brackets. Above the door, there is a similar two-light window. To the left of the main structure is a 20th-century lean-to extension that is designed to be in keeping with the original building.
The farmhouse is located on the Macclesfield-Hazel Grove turnpike, which was modified in the early 19th century.
