Description
Adlington Hall Mews and Tea Rooms is a building that was originally constructed as stables and hay lofts in 1817 for Richard Legh. It was converted into two flats and a tea room in 1974. The structure is made of brown brick laid in English garden wall bond, resting on a sandstone rubble plinth, with a hipped roof covered in Kerridge stone-slate and a stone ridge. The building has an L-shaped plan that nearly encloses a courtyard.
The north range features a central driftway with elliptical headed stone arches that display the date and initials on the keystone. Above these arches are elliptical pitch holes, which are now blocked, along with lines of diamond pattern ventilation holes. The west end includes 20th-century windows designed in a Georgian style. The east range has tall semi-circular headed recesses with 20th-century windows and doorcases styled in the Adam manner.
