Description
The sundial at the center of the south front lawn at Adlington Hall is likely from around 1825. It is made of buff sandstone and features a pair of circular steps with moulded nosing that support a partly fluted baluster on an octagonal base. Atop this is a projecting moulded octagonal capstone, which holds a now worn copper plate and a simple triangular plate gnomon. The plate displays Roman numerals and the initials TL in copper plate lettering, probably representing Thomas Legh VI, who was the lord of the manor from 1822 to 1829.
