Description
Greenacres and Windle Hey is a pair of houses that were formerly known as Hope Green farmhouse. The building dates back to the 17th century, with a facade added in the mid-19th century and some alterations made in the 20th century. The structure is primarily made of stuccoed brick, with part of it constructed from coursed squared buff sandstone rubble. It features a Kerridge stone-slate roof and has five brick chimneys.
Greenacres has a two-storey, three-bay front that is stuccoed, with 16-pane sash windows in the end bays. The central entrance has a plain doorcase with a rectangular fanlight that is divided by vertical glazing bars, leading to a six-panelled door. The heavy roof timbers visible in the gables indicate its 17th-century origins.
The Windle Hey section consists of two attached ranges at the rear of Greenacres, one made of brick and the other of stone. The brick range features a sawtooth band at the first floor, while the stone range has a projecting rubble band at the same level. The openings include a mix of 19th and 20th-century styles. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to contain heavy ceiling beams and 17th-century woodwork.
