GUISBOROUGH WESTGATE (SOUTH SIDE) Nos 19, 21 and 23

GV II

Pair of houses; now a shop. Early C19. Dressed sandstone with tooled margins; Gaelic clay tile roof; stone ridge copings; four brick and stone stacks (L.H.S. one shared with No.17 Westgate). two storeys. Asymmetrical. Late C20 shop front to ground floor with original plain stone doorway architrave (LHS) and large semi-circular headed carriage arch (RHS) with rusticated voussoirs and reveal. Four late C19 first floor sash windows with painted stone sills and keystones. Rusticated quoins. Moulded timber eaves cornice. Inside the carriage archway, the East wall has blocked door and window openings. West wall has lower part of C17 external flue with moulded string and corbel, belonging to earlier adjoining building replaced in mid C19. Horse mounting block (two dressed sandstone steps) to LHS of flue. Extensions to rear (South side) are not of interest.
